The Rockafire Explosion - Electric Feel

posted by Frankie J | Sun, January 3 | 1:51 PM | Permalink

This stemmed from Kristen and I watching that 80's flick Labyrinth starring Jennifer Connelly & David Bowie.  The movie has a bunch of Jim Henson style puppet like characters that are pretty creepy.  It reminded us of this pizza place that used to be a popular chain restaurant in the US when we were kids.  It was called Show Biz Pizza but since was bought out and changed to Chucky Cheese's.  The place was basically a giant arcade with this back room where this crazy looking mechanical animal band would play music on stage while you ate pizza.  The band was creepy as hell though and I recall kinda being a bit scared of them...we just wanted to go there to go crazy in the huge arcade.  Anyway, so we decided to google it and the first thing that popped up was a link to this video of the Show Biz Pizza band Rockafire Explosion doing MGMT - Electric Feel.

SPAT020: Wattie Green - "Midnight Radio EP" OUT NOW on Vinyl!

Spatula City Records is proud to present it's 20th vinyl release:

SPAT020: Wattie Green
"Midnight Radio EP"

A1. Wake Sally Baker
A2. Wattie's Dream
B. Is You Is

Spatula City Records is proud to presents it's 20th release!  To celebrate this accomplishment, starting with this release, all Spatula City vinyl releases will come in super spiffy full color record jackets. For this release Spatula City is incredibly elated to give you a top notch release from Nashville's newcomer house phenom Wattie Green. This is Wattie's first vinyl release and we are glad to have him aboard our gravy train as he delivers us the "Midnight Radio EP".

The first tune on the record is a must have lowdown n jazzy jam called "Wake Sally Baker". This tune is an amazing dirty jazz delivery of walking bass lines and piano riffs that hit the essence of an era of jazz that few house producers have been able to relic. The piano hooks and up jumping beat make this tune a must have jam that transcends many boundaries of the many house niches.

The second cut on the record is another journey through jazz called "Wattie's Dream". Wicked sax licks battling relentless piano over a dreamlike groove push n pull the senses across time. Packed with melody and groove, this track is a dancefloor soul grabber, and a bit of an ass grabber as well.

On the flip we have a nice n loud 45 rpm pressing of "Is You Is", which perfectly complements the other two tracks on the late night jazz artifacts tip. Wattie brings this EP to a head with a swing infused vocal hook, and wicked bass undertones. Piercing piano lines work and work and take you 'round n 'round the dancefloor through to the key modulation toward the end that is the icing on the cake. Such a well rounded track for such a well rounded EP.

This late night Spatula City juke joint is now available on vinyl at these fine locations:
Downtown 304 | Gramaphone | Juno

A1. d-T3ch - When It Was Good
A2. Wattie Green - Straighten Up
B1. Sonny Fodera - Winter Nights
B2. Biboulakis - Fresh Start

Holy hell's kitchen aid boys n girls, its #19! Grab your good apron and a bottle of gin cuz we are about to start swinging again. Spatula City is proud to present the "Spatula City Swings EP", which takes us back to time when liquor was bootlegged, not music ;). With this sampler record we come swinging with four jump n jivin tunes that trump the great resurgence of swing house.

Leading us off is Melbourne's favorite son & Spatula City veteran, d-T3ch. Coming with his grand slam jam "When It Was Good", he gives us the heart and soul of swing house with a great uplifting sax lead and full band jasm. This tune is sure make for some happy jazz hands.

On deck we have rookie rising star Wattie Green from Nashville who sets us straight with a line drive to the soul with his cut "Staighten Up". Another solid piano jam that gives you the jackin jitters!

To kick off the next inning is Adelaide's Sonny Fodera with his slamma jamma "Winter Nights". This tune rocks some tough jackin beats with a great piano roll and sax jive that will keep you warm as the night get colder.

Cleaning things up is New York's Biboulakis who's solid production skills have really improved his batting average as of late. He comes swinging with his track "Fresh Start" which is a happy go lucky upright bassline bouncer that keeps your head bobbing. Don't miss out on this refreshing new take on a style of house music that still has made a legendary return from the minor leagues!!!

The browser is irrelevant to the podcast. The podcast should be an .XML address, which it is in this case, and should update and download using a pod-catcher/receiver
such as iTunes or Juice. It is not a simple downloaded file but an automated file manager.

frankie j said... | on 27 Jan 2010

Macho said... | on 27 Jan 2010

Hey Frankie. Sorry to bother but I love your music and the podcast is a great way to get though my commute everyday. I tried subscribing again at my friends house on a totally different ISP and still no luck :(
